OLICO is growing our early-grades maths work and we are looking for an experienced materials developer with a proven track record. You will develop learner and teacher materials for Grades 1-4 maths which includes print materials, structured teacher support content for short formats like WhatsApp, fluency activities & assessment items. The materials will be used by more than 2000 teachers in real DBE classrooms. You will revise these based on what teachers and learners actually do with them. You will report to OLICO’s Director of Mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Write learner-facing and teacher-facing maths materials for Grades 1-4 aligned to the workbooks in use in DBE classrooms.
• Develop short-format teacher support content suitable for delivery via WhatsApp, including videos and automated assessments.
• Develop activities for the typical South African classroom with clear progressions across grades.
• Work with translators and reviewers to version materials into African languages, and check that versioned content preserves mathematical meaning.
• Participate in classroom visits, observe materials in use, and revise based on evidence.

 Requirements

• A degree in Maths, Maths Education or equivalent Maths Specialisation. A postgraduate qualification in Maths Education is strongly preferred.At least five years of experience in maths education, including at least two years developing learner or teacher materials that have been used in real classrooms.
• Demonstrated experience writing instructional materials that have been used at scale or in real classrooms. We will ask for samples.
• Strong knowledge of CAPS for Foundation and Intermediate Phase mathematics.
• Familiarity with early grade number sense and fluency research.
• Clear, plain writing in English.
• Excellent proficiency in working digitally and quick to learn new digital tools.
• Advantageous: experience developing shortform video content.

Terms: We are open to structuring this role to suit the right candidate: full-time on a two-year contract, part-time, or a project-specific engagement.

Location: Ideally based in Johannesburg with regular Jhb meetings and classroom observations.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and market rates and pro-rata for part-time arrangements.
